geforce now

Nvidia’s announcement of the new 3080 tier of GeForce NOW earlier in the week struck most of the internet by surprise. From what Nvidia was claiming with regards to performance and low latency, it would basically be ushering in a new era of cloud gaming. One that actually worked. One that would work so well at times that you would forget that it is on the cloud.

In todays GPU scarce day and age, it couldn’t of come at a better time. As someone who has been looking for over a year to get a 3080, but also unwilling to pay 100-150% markup, I was eager to test it. I put my pre-order in and eagerly waiting for release.

Today however, I noticed a different server config when I was firing up Cyberpunk to test the lower latency. Over the past 24 hours RTX3060d server configs have begun popping up in various datacenters across GeForce NOW. So now having been assigned one, I went straight for the promised land, which is ultra graphics and psycho RTX quality. Being on Wi-Fi from my laptop, I wasn’t expecting much or to have severe latency and stuttering. To my surprise, there was none.

Gameplay was fluid and smooth. Almost to the point where I was actively forgetting it was streaming. In the 2 hours played, I only noticed a handful of controller input glitches or delay. While the display was still capped at 1080P and 60FPS, it still looked better than any other streaming streaming service I’ve tried. The controller response was quicker than XCloud and the network stream was close to perfect.

Over the coming weeks there is abound to me higher availability until the full release in November which is probably when the resolution bump options will take place. I for one will be eagerly awaiting to see how the full release goes. Judging by how quick the server was in something like a pre-release beta, I’m expecting great things.

Below is a quick video I took to just show how fluid the gameplay was including the settings applied.
